Self-thread flat head screws

Are fasteners designed to cut or form their own threads as they are driven into a material, eliminating the need for pre-tapped holes.

Key features:
Self-threading tip: Sharp or specially shaped point that bites into the material (common in metal, plastic, or wood).
Flat head: The top of the screw is countersunk, meaning it sits flush with or below the surface once installed—ideal when a smooth finish is needed.
Thread design: Typically coarse and aggressive to help create secure threads during insertion.
Drive types: Can include Phillips, slotted, Torx, or square drives.
Common uses:
Attaching sheet metal
Fastening plastic components
Light-duty wood applications
Electrical boxes, panels, and fixtures
Benefits:
No need for pre-threading (saves time)
Strong hold in thin or soft materials
Clean, flush surface appearance due to the flat head
Considerations:
A pilot hole is sometimes recommended for harder materials
Over-tightening can strip the newly formed threads
Not ideal for repeated removal and reinsertion (threads can wear out)
